First Aid Kits

We have three First Aid Kits:

• One small POCKET kit that we take with us on walks
• One we keep in our CAR for trips with the dogs
• One we keep at HOME

Our POCKET KIT contains:

• Ambulance Dressings
• Medical Wipes
• Blunt End Tufkut Scissors for cutting bandages, and also in case we need to cut a dog free from a difficult tangle. These scissors hould cut tug-lines, and are blunt ended so safer than sharp scissors in a situation where a dog may be struggling or distressed.

The two larger kits for our CAR and HOME both contain:

• Ambulance Dressings
• Conforming Bandages
• Elastic Adhesive Bandages
• Medical Wipes
• Blunt-ended Scissors
• Sharp Steel Scissors
• Emergency Blankets

Whilst we have made up our own first aid kits, there are many good Complete First Aid Kits for Pets available. If you find an appropriate sized kit for your needs, you can always add in extra items you feel are important if they are not already included. Specific Pet First Aid Kits are also available.

Books on First Aid

It is definitely worth investing in a book on dog first aid to keep on hand in case of emergency. A good first aid book contains concise, specific information and is easy to search through quickly.

In an emergency, such a book can save you vital minutes - having to switch on a computer and trawl through websites in an emergency situation is far from ideal. Out and about there may be no other sources of information, and if a dog is injured you may have to wait some time before help arrives or you can get to a vet.
